The Eliot Racer is Tracksmith's marathon shoe, and it is built the way the rest of the field is not: the supercritical foam sits in a free-floating drop-in midsole, not glued to the chassis, with a full-length carbon plate and a rocker underneath it. The result is a 38 mm stack that stays soft under the forefoot and still rolls you forward.
It suits you if you race half marathons and marathons, you want the plate without the shouting, and you are disciplined enough to keep the shoe for the days that count.
It is not a trainer. Race shoes wear out fast, this one included, and easy miles in it spend a race you have not run yet. It is also not the lightest plated racer, and it costs more than most — the drop-in construction and the finish are where that money goes, not into shaving grams.
