The Kinabalu Ultra is the long-distance end of SCOTT's trail range. A supercritical Kinetic Nitrogen midsole gives it a 39 mm heel and a 6 mm drop, the ER3 rocker adds side-to-side guidance as well as roll, and the MATRYX upper is there to survive the abrasion a long race hands out. At 270 g that is modest for the stack.
It suits you if you already run long off-road and want cushioning that still works six hours in, on trails that roll rather than scramble.
It is not a light, low shoe for short efforts. That much foam blunts ground feel, and if your runs are shorter and quicker the Kinabalu Trail is 20 g lighter and sits 6 mm closer to the ground.
