Ultra Glide is the shoe Salomon builds for the back half of a long day. A 41 mm heel is a lot of foam for a trail shoe, and the 6 mm drop keeps your foot low in it rather than perched on top of it. It is aimed at ultra distance, where comfort at hour six matters more than feel at minute one.
It suits you if your long runs run past two hours and you finish them sore in the feet rather than the lungs.
It is not precise. At 285 g with that much stack you lose ground feel, and on genuinely technical rock you will want something lower. It is not a mud shoe either — the lugs are built for mixed ground.
