The Speedcross is what you put on when the trail turns to mud. Salomon gives it 5 mm lugs and a chassis that holds your foot still, so you push off soft ground instead of sliding across it. The 10 mm drop is the tallest heel in Salomon's trail range and suits you if you land heel-first.
At 298 g with a 32 mm heel it is protective rather than soft, and it never disappears underfoot. That is the trade for grip this aggressive.
It is not a shoe for hardpack or road. Those lugs wear fast on rock and feel like studs on tarmac, so keep it for the wet months and run something smoother the rest of the year.
