Genesis is Salomon's answer for rocky, technical ground. The 34 mm heel gives you enough foam to take the sting out of a long descent, and the 8 mm drop keeps things familiar if you have come off a road trainer. At 272 g it sits in the middle of the trail range: not a racer, not a tank.
It suits you if most of your running is mixed trail — some rock, some hardpack, some root — and you want one shoe that copes with all of it rather than a specialist for each.
It is not a mud shoe. The lugs are moderate and they will not save you on wet grass or deep slop, and it is far too much shoe for a fast road tempo.
