The Cloudvista 2 is On's do-everything trail shoe. A two-prong Speedboard adds rebound, softer Helion foam sits underneath, and a sticky Missiongrip outsole handles mixed ground rather than specialising in mud. The 6 mm drop keeps it close to what most road runners are used to.
It suits you if your trail running is really mixed running: fire road, singletrack, and a stretch of pavement to get there. It is a comfortable shoe to spend a couple of hours in, and forgiving of a clumsy foot placement.
It is not a technical mountain shoe and, at 305 g, it is not light. Deep mud and steep loose ground want more aggressive lugs, and a fast road session wants a lot less shoe.
