The Wave Neo Ultra was Mizuno's first attempt at a running shoe with a balanced carbon footprint: an undyed knit upper, a wave plate made from castor-oil-derived Pebax, and enough foam to make it a genuinely soft daily trainer rather than a token gesture. The heel measures 39 mm, with an 8 mm drop.
It suits you if you run easy most of the week and want something forgiving underfoot for those miles. The knit upper is comfortable straight out of the box and the ride is soft rather than lively.
It is not a shoe for fast running, and at 300 g you will feel that the moment you try. It has also been superseded — Mizuno's current range has moved on, so treat it as a shoe you find rather than one you order.
