The Wave Daichi 8 is Mizuno's do-everything trail shoe: ENERZY foam through the midsole, a foam wave for stability rather than a rigid plate, a shock-dispersing EVA plate at the forefoot, and a Vibram Megagrip outsole that holds on wet rock and mud.
It suits you if your trail running is varied — some smooth path, some rough climbing, nothing so technical that you need a dedicated mountain shoe. At 300 g with a 34 mm heel and a 7 mm drop it is protective without being a slab, and the rock plate earns its place the moment you run over stones.
It is not fast on the road. The lugs squirm on tarmac and wear quickly there, so keep it for the runs it was built for.
