Best for
The MTL SpeedARC Peak is Merrell's most advanced running shoe, built for podiums and personal records, and it costs $290 to match. Its three-layer SpeedARC midsole puts PEBA-based racing foam over a more durable base, and a carbon FlexPlate is forked so the forefoot adapts independently. A Matryx upper and Vibram Megagrip Elite outsole finish a 305 g trail racer.
It suits you if you race trails or push tempo efforts on varied ground and want propulsion with grip underneath it. Technical courses, where the plate and the grip both matter, are what it was built around.
It is not an everyday trainer. The race-focused foam and the carbon plate favor fast days, and the shoe is simply more than you need for easy miles on the way to the start line.
