La Sportiva Bushido III

La Sportiva's technical mountain shoe — 300 g, low and firm, built to hold a line on ground that keeps moving.

The Bushido is La Sportiva's technical mountain shoe, and the III is the third take on a design a decade in the range. Its outsole lugs wrap up over the midsole, so it grips when you run across a slope rather than up it, a compressed EVA rock guard sits in the forefoot, and the slip-on construction wraps the foot like a sock.

It suits you if your running is steep, rocky and technical, and you would rather feel the ground than be insulated from it. The bi-compound FriXion outsole puts the stickier rubber down the middle, which keeps you over the shoe on broken ground.

It is not a cushioned shoe and it is not forgiving. At 300 g on a low, firm platform, long stretches of hard-packed trail tire you, and the fit is precise rather than roomy, though La Sportiva now builds a wide version.
