The Torrent is the nimble shoe in Hoka's trail range. It carries less foam than the rest of the line, and the 5 mm lugs are aggressive enough to hold on wet ground, loose dirt and mud.
It suits you when the trail is technical and you want to feel where your foot is landing. The lower stack gives you better ground feel and a more stable platform on off-camber ground, and the shoe is quick enough to race short and middle-distance trail events in.
It is not an ultra shoe. There is not much between you and the rocks, so a long day in the mountains will beat your feet up in a way a taller shoe would prevent. Use it for the sharp, technical, shorter runs and pick something deeper for all-day efforts.
