The Stinson 7 is the most cushioned shoe in Hoka's trail range, built for all-terrain miles rather than technical ones. A tall bed of soft foam sits over multi-directional lugs and a stiffening H-Frame, so it rolls along tarmac to the trailhead and keeps working once the ground turns to gravel and fire road.
It suits you if your runs start on pavement and end on dirt, you want protection for the hours in between, and you would rather have a shoe that holds your foot steady than one that gets out of your way.
It is not nimble. At 366 g it is heavy even by trail standards, the stack is high enough that tight technical ground asks a lot of your ankles, and the frame keeps the platform steady rather than letting the shoe disappear underfoot. It is not a racing shoe either.
