Tempo

Brooks Hyperion 2

A light, plateless road shoe for intervals, tempo runs and short races — Brooks' cheap speed.

The Hyperion 2 is the small, quick shoe in Brooks' speed line: about 200 g, an 8 mm drop, responsive nitrogen-infused foam and no plate anywhere in it. It is what a racing flat grew into — light and direct, with just enough cushion that a full session does not leave a mark.

It suits interval days, tempo runs, strides, and short road races when you would rather not spend carbon-shoe mileage on a parkrun. The streamlined upper holds the foot without much padding, which is the whole idea.

It is not a daily trainer and it is not a marathon shoe. There is not a lot of foam under you, so easy miles feel thin and long runs are felt in the legs the next morning.
