The Ghost is the shoe Brooks points most runners at first, and the 17 is the version built around DNA LOFT v3 with more cushion in the heel and the forefoot than the 16 carried. It is a 10 mm drop trainer for the runs that fill an ordinary week: easy days, steady days, and the long one at the end of them.
It suits you if you want one pair that never asks for a decision. There is no plate and nothing sharp about the ride — it lands soft, rolls forward, and otherwise stays out of the way.
It is not fast. At close to 290 g it feels like exactly what it is the moment you try to run a workout in it, and the road outsole has no business on a wet trail.
