Best for
The Catamount Agil is the fast shoe in Brooks' trail range: a SpeedVault Trail Plate under a lower-than-usual stack, meant to carry you to top speed on race day. A 6 mm drop and about 218 g keep it quick on the foot, and one unisex model covers everybody.
It suits shorter trail races and the fast sessions that lead up to them, such as tempo efforts and intervals on firm trail. The low stack keeps you close to the ground, which is what you want when the pace is high and the footing is decent.
It is not an ultra shoe, and it is not an easy-day cruiser. With less foam than a typical trail trainer, long grinding miles land harder, and the plate keeps nudging you toward pace when you would rather jog.
