Brooks Caldera 8

Brooks' ultra-distance trail shoe — a tall, soft stack for 50K-plus days on rough ground.

The Caldera 8 is Brooks' long-day trail shoe. There is a lot of foam under it at a 6 mm drop, and Brooks aims it squarely at 50K and beyond — the runs where protection matters more than precision and you are still upright long after everything has started to ache.

It suits ultra training, the weekly long trail run, and anyone who comes off rocky descents with bruised feet. The upper is cut for hours on the move rather than for a tight race fit, so it stays comfortable when your feet swell.

It is not a technical shoe and it is not quick. Around 300 g with that much stack, it dulls the ground feel you want on tight singletrack, and it has nothing to offer on road beyond the run to the trailhead.
