ASICS Superblast 3

The super-trainer original on the new FF LEAP foam — a huge unplated stack for long runs and tempo days.

The Superblast created the plateless super-trainer category, and the 3 keeps the recipe while upgrading the material: the new FF LEAP foam, whose composition comes off the Metaspeed program, over a redesigned outsole with a trampoline pod at toe-off. Still a huge stack, still no plate, 239 g on an 8 mm drop.

It suits you if you want one shoe that covers the long run and the tempo day and feels expensive doing both — the exact one-shoe-for-volume-and-pace brief the 2 owned.

It is not a racer: without a plate there is no snap at the very sharp end, and at $210 it is the most expensive trainer ASICS sells. If bounce matters more to you than ground feel, its new sibling the Megablast is the softer, springier take on the same idea.
