The VIA Olympus is the road version of Altra's most cushioned trail shoe, and the 2 puts 33 mm of EGO MAX foam under a zero drop platform. It is the softest, tallest thing Altra makes for tarmac, and it is built for volume rather than pace.
It suits you on easy days and long runs, especially if you already run zero drop and want protection without a raised heel. The toe box is wide, the ride is soft, and it walks as comfortably as it runs.
It is not a shoe for anything quick. At 323 g there is a great deal of it, and the flat, tall platform feels vague the moment you try to change pace. Keep something lower for the sharp days.
