Superior is the light, low end of Altra's trail range and the 7 keeps it there: a 21 mm platform of compression-moulded EVA, a MaxTrac outsole and a plain mesh upper. It is zero drop with the standard Altra toe box, so your foot sits level and can spread as it loads.
It suits you if you run technical ground and want to feel it — rock, root, off-camber single-track, where knowing where your foot is matters more than the foam under it. Altra lists it for trail running and hiking, and it is light enough to move quickly in.
It is not a cushioned shoe, and not the one for a very long, very rocky day. A level platform this low stops protecting you a few hours in, and if your trails are mostly runnable fire road the Timp or the Lone Peak will treat you better.
