Best for
The Olympus is Altra's max-cushion trail shoe, and the 7 updates its EGO MAX foam to be lighter and softer than before. A Vibram Megagrip outsole with TractionLug handles grip, TPU overlays protect the upper, and a 33 mm stack sits on a zero drop. At 325 g it comes in lighter than its predecessor.
It suits long and ultra-distance trail days, and all-day hiking, where high cushion and a neutral platform matter more than speed. The Megagrip is the grip you want when the day turns wet and rocky.
It is not a light or nimble shoe, and it is not an inexpensive one. Zero drop under a soft, tall stack asks for adaptation if you normally run in a raised heel, and the shoe feels bulky on quick efforts.
