Trail Runs

Altra's line on the King MT 2 is that it brought back a classic and did not change a thing. That means EGO midsole foam on a 19 mm stack with zero drop, a Vibram Litebase outsole with aggressive lugs, and 292 g between you and technical ground.

It suits technical trails and trail races where you want to feel the ground and trust the grip. The cushion is low, which makes it a precise, grounded shoe for runners who like to read the terrain through their feet.

It is not a cushioned shoe for long days, and it has little business on smooth roads or gravel paths. Rocky miles will punish tired feet on that thin stack, and the aggressive lugs have nothing to bite into on hard surfaces.
