adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2

adidas' 138 g record-chaser — Lightstrike Pro Evo with a forefoot rocker instead of a plate, at $500.

The Adios Pro Evo 2 is adidas' halo racer, and the surprise on its own spec sheet is what is missing: there is no plate. At 138 g in a UK 8.5, Lightstrike Pro Evo foam does the cushioning and an aggressive forefoot rocker — placed at sixty percent of the shoe's length, per adidas' launch notes — does the propulsion, on a 39 mm stack with a 3 mm drop.

It suits you if a marathon PR justifies a $500 shoe with a service life measured in single races; the Pro Evo line's world records and Majors wins are the entire argument.

It is not a shoe you train in, ever, and it is not for most runners — the Adios Pro 4 delivers most of the effect at half the price with far more shoe left afterwards.
